Facebook Blocked for Iranians

At my workplace, Facebook is blocked and many of the staff grumble about it, but whats this? an entire country has blocked access to Facebook and why?

Iran's government has blocked access to social networking site Facebook ahead of June's presidential elections, according to Iran's ILNA news agency.ILNA suggested the move was aimed at stopping supporters of reformist candidate Mir Hossein Mousavi from using the site for his campaign.'

Maybe Iran simply do not care about what the Western world thinks of them, but if they do (and I think they do) then this is a very bad move indeed. Freedom, democracy and free speech are essential component of an honest election and by shutting down free speech (facebook) they have made themselves look pretty bad I reckon.

It said that "according to certain Internet surfers, the site was banned because supporters of Mir Hossein Mousavi were using Facebook to better disseminate the candidate's positions".

So whats wrong with that? maybe he, like many other minority candidates are using all the tools at their disposal in trying to publicise an election campaign, by using a site like Facebook this means that even the little guy has a voice...

but not in Iran.

10 Million New Zealand Dollars? Goneburgers!

Interpol is involved in the worldwide search for a New Zealand couple who have run off with millions of dollars worth of money from a New Zealand bank (westpac) after they accidentally received 10 Million Dollars instead of 10 Thousand...oops.

What would you do? Run? or hand it over?

I guess pretty much most people would hand the money back but you have to admit, the temptation to just bolt with the cash would be very tempting, especially if you fled to a country which doesn't have an extradition treaty with your own. (NZ)

I am in two minds about this one. Part of me thinks they should hand it over and part of me thinks "good on ya!"

As they say in New Zealand, that money is 'goneburgers!'..... at least for now.

What is it with People who hurt Animals?

I never used to be much of a Cat person, I was always more into dogs. That is until i got my first cat around a year ago and now I absolutely adore the little guy.

But whats going on in the news?

Here in NZ we have had a recent story of some kids who dropped off a couple of kittens to an animal shelter in Wellington and it looks like the sick little f*cks cut one of their paws off.

"Ms McNair said she thought the children, who left the cats with the league before leaving without any contact details, were joking when they told her the kittens' feet ''fell off''. "I never thought that their feet had actually gone,'' she said. "It's just horrendous.''

Whats next? is the morality of kids like this likely to spread to something a little more sinister next time?

This is one crime that I say qualifies for my idea of Short Term Solitary Confinement

How Much to Move my Car to the UK !

Yes I know you probably think I am nuts, why the hell would I want to ship my car to the UK from New Zealand? I mean its just a shitty little Nissan Sunny after all.

But seriously though, how much would it cost?

Many people get attached to their cars and I am no different, its worse when you have a bloody reliable one with a bulletproof engine and you are reluctant to give it up. If it were not too much to chuck it in a shipping container along with my PC, Couch TV etc then I reckon I would do it if the price was right.

I bet you any money that when I do eventually move and buy another car, the bloody thing will break down in no time!

Anyone out there done this International moving thing? if so, please let me know!
